The Real Merlin and Arthur

Stars of the hit drama series Merlin, Colin Morgan and Bradley James, set off across Wales to explore the country's centuries-old connections to the legend of King Arthur and his wizard Merlin. Along the way they encounter enthusiasts and experts in Arthurian lore, and visit some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Wales.

The young stars of the BBC TV drama series Merlin have taken to the road to explore Wales's century old connections to the legend of King Arthur.

Colin Morgan (Merlin) and Bradley James (Arthur) visited Caerleon near Newport, reputed to be the location of Camelot.

They also went to Llanuwchllyn, near Bala, said to be Arthur's childhood home, and met enthusiasts and experts in Arthurian lore.

The Real Merlin and Arthur is on BBC Two Wales on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Much of the Merlin series has been filmed at locations across south Wales, including Cosmeston Medieval Village near Penarth.

But Colin says the road trip gave them a rare opportunity to visit some of the historical sites which inspired the filming.

"We've spent eight months in Cardiff and we haven't seen the rest of Wales," says Colin.

"So this is a chance for us to see the sights and hopefully find out who the real Arthur and Merlin were."

On their three-day road trip through the Welsh countryside, Colin and Bradley visited a number of locations including Mold library, home of the largest collection of Arthurian texts in Wales.

Scholar and author Scott Lloyd discussed the route with them as well as the world's enduring fascination with the legend.

The series is based on the relationship between the youthful Merlin and Arthur

They also drove across Bwlch y Groes, the highest public road mountain pass in Wales, and the legendary resting place of a giant slain by King Arthur.

In Dinas Mawddwy, local enthusiast Laurence Main taught them the art of dowsing, and showed them the point where various "ley lines" converge on what he believes to be the location of Arthur's death after his final battle with the evil Mordred.

And in Caerleon, once believed to be the location of Camelot, they visited the ancient Roman amphitheatre known popularly as King Arthur's Round Table.
They were given a tour of the amphitheatre by Mark Lewis, a curator at the nearby National Roman Legion Museum, who explained the truth behind the site's origins.

Я смотрела вот недельку назад BBC In search of myths and heroes про Артура, он тоже катался по местам...и я еще думала, вот бы Брэдли...и...BBC OWNS ME!!!
Так вот с кем Брэдли катался по Уэльсу. *____*

На отвлеченную тему - мне пришла моя The Once and Future King, она такая толстенная и интересная...*____*
Еще меня плющит по ВК и Арагорн/Эовин.
Кажется эскапизм достиг своего апогея - я даже вылезать из-под одеяла не хочу.
